Workspace Templates

Configure the agent, Flows, container, Connections, and runtime defaults inherited by new Workspaces.

3 min read

Workspace Templates define the defaults applied when the project creates a Workspace. Open Advanced → Workspace Templates to review each template's name, default state, Flow fallback, scheduled Flow, and creation date.

Usually managed automatically

Workspace setup automatically creates the default Workspace Template. It maps the default Agent, Container, execution Flows, runtime behavior, and Connection security settings used by new Workspaces. Most teams manage these defaults through Personalization in the Workspace UI and use this page only for advanced template administration.

What a new Workspace inherits

A newly created Workspace inherits the selected template's Agent, Container, Flow fallback, scheduled Flow, idle timeout, Flow-property overrides, and default Connection permissions. These settings establish the new Workspace's starting execution and security boundary.

When project-level Personalization changes a template-backed option, BotDojo updates the default Workspace Template. Personalization for the Agent's name, instructions, memory, or default model updates the linked default Agent. Workspace-specific Connection overrides remain specific to that Workspace.

Inheritance happens when the Workspace or task draft is created. Later changes to the template do not silently rewrite every existing Workspace.

Template settings

SettingWhat it does
Template Name and DescriptionIdentify the template in Workspace creation and explain its intended workload.
Default AgentAssigns the Agent that gives new Workspaces their identity, memory, and tools.
Flow FallbackRuns only when the assigned Agent has no configured Flow. Choose Auto-create new flow when BotDojo should create one.
Scheduled FlowRuns scheduled task Workspaces created from Task Hub. It is required when saving the template.
ContainerChooses the Workspace container. The Workspace mounts /workspace read-write and /agent read-only.
Idle TimeoutStops idle Workspace compute after the selected number of seconds. 0 means no timeout.
Set as default templateMakes this the template BotDojo selects by default for the project.
Use experimental featuresUses the experimental Workspace Agent Flow. Saving can update the existing Workspace Agent in place.
Default Flow Property OverridesOverrides selected Flow-property defaults for Workspaces created from the template. Unset properties continue using the Flow defaults.
Default Connection PermissionsSets the Connection security permissions inherited by new Workspace or task drafts. Per-task personalization can override these defaults.

Use Default Settings removes Flow-property overrides. Use Resource Defaults removes template-specific Connection overrides.

Page actions

  • Upgrade Workspace Agent opens the controlled upgrade path for the project's Workspace Agent and templates.
  • Delete permanently removes the selected template after confirmation. Confirm another usable default exists first.

Template changes affect newly created Workspaces and defaults applied through the creation path. They do not automatically prove that existing Workspaces have been migrated; use the upgrade action when the UI offers it and review the result before broader rollout.
